Detailed Geological Map of Poland 1:50,000 Sheet: Gorzów Wielkopolski (387)

The Detailed Geological Map of Poland at a scale of 1:50,000 (DGMP 1:50,000) is prepared in Polish on the basis of geological mapping, particularly data from boreholes drilled down to the sub-Quaternary basement, as well as geological and geophysical surveys and laboratory studies. The complete edition comprises 1,069 sheets. Published since 1956, the Detailed Geological Map of Poland at a scale of 1:50,000, together with its explanatory notes (including additional cross-sections and thematic maps at a scale of 1:100 000), constitutes a comprehensive compendium of geological knowledge about the country. It serves as the fundamental reference map used in the preparation of all subsequent thematic geological maps of Poland, at both detailed and regional scales. Each map sheet is supplemented by one or two geological cross-sections typical of the area; one of them (illustrating Quaternary deposits) is presented with a highly exaggerated vertical scale. Every sheet is accompanied by an explanatory brochure containing a description of the geological structure of the area, logs of the most significant boreholes, geomorphological and sub-Quaternary basement sketches, as well as the results of field and laboratory analyses.

Szczegółowa Mapa Geologiczna Polski w skali 1:50 000 (SMGP) jest mapą seryjną obejmującą powierzchnię całej Polski podzieloną na 1069 arkuszy. Poszczególne arkusze tej mapy zostały opracowane w latach 1956 – 2009 przez wielu autorów. Koordynację organizacyjną i merytoryczną sprawuje Państwowy Instytut Geologiczny - Państwowy Instytut Badawczy, który również wykonuje redakcję merytoryczną, techniczną oraz cyfruje arkusze SMGP. SMGP jest podstawową mapą geologiczną, wykonaną w oparciu o szczegółowe terenowe prace geologiczno-zdjęciowe zrealizowane w skali 1:25 000, prace dokumentacyjne, geofizyczne, wiertnicze i laboratoryjne. Opracowanie mapy obejmowało również zestawienie i interpretację kompletu archiwalnych danych geologicznych. SMGP jest opracowywana na podstawie Instrukcji opracowania i wydania SMGP, która była zmieniana w kolejnych wydaniach w latach 1958, 1977, 1991, 1996 i 2004 (instrukcja aktualnie obowiązująca) oraz Metodyki opracowania SMGP (1999). W związku z przyrostem danych geologicznych oraz z kilkakrotnymi zmianami instrukcji zaistniała konieczność reambulowania wybranych arkuszy dawno realizowanych. W ramach realizacji pierwszej edycji SMGP zreambulowano 68 arkuszy, aktualnie trwają prace reambulacyjne na kolejnych 25 arkuszach. W związku z tajnością map topograficznych i niedostępnością dokładnych map topograficznych, przez szereg lat prace terenowe dla realizacji SMGP były wykonywane na podkładach topograficznych wykonanych w układach dziś historycznych o różnej dokładności jak również na mapach celowo skażonych. To samo dotyczy podkładów topograficznych na których mapy geologiczne poszczególnych arkuszy SMGP były publikowane. Jednym z celów reambulacji wybranych arkuszy jest przerysowanie poprawionych i uaktualnionych granic geologicznych z dostosowaniem ich do jednolitego dla całej Polski układu 1992.
